Minutes of the Ionia County Model Club

Held Thursday, October 9, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 7:37 p.m. by President Dave Walter.

10 members were present.

Treasurer’s Report:  The current checking account balance is $3560.87. 

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes of the meeting held September 11, 2014 were reviewed and approved.

Old Business

1.       Darrell Davis presented some possible designs for a club tee shirt.  Members in attendance indicated preferences and Darrell agreed to work at fine-tuning a design.  Paul Denny is also working on a design.  A decision on design should be made at the November meeting.

New Business

2.      President Dave presented a budget, totaling $4,380 for the new fiscal year.  He reviewed spending from last year’s budget item-by-item.  The budget was underspent by $187.  More members than anticipated had joined the club (67 total) and total income was $1,199 over anticipated.  A motion to approve the new budget was supported and passed.

3.      Dave reviewed a list of events that are currently scheduled for the new flying year.  To view a list, go to the Walter Field website at www.walterrcpark.com

4.      A new tri-fold brochure for the field is done and will be printed.  Last year more than 600 copies had been distributed at various events.

5.      The new club flag was displayed at the club house.

6.      Dave talked about remodeling at the field.  The Dutch barn is being moved back from the flying pit area and a new shade structure is being added.  The cement pad for the barn was finished on the night of our meeting.  The shade structure is expected to be about 24 feet square and located just to the east of the barn.  Members present felt strongly that the club, with excess funds from the past year, should contribute to the capital project.  A motion was made, supported and approved to contribute $2,000 at this time for what is expected to be about a $5,200 project.  Thanks for the great facilities you provide, Dave!

7.      The annual election of new members was held.  All current office-holders, including a retiring board member, were re-nominated for their offices with the exception of the secretary position.  Paul Gess was elected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer for the coming year.  Officers for the current year are:

Secretqary-Treasurer:  Paul Gess

Directors:  John Schneider, Robert Rathburn, Darrell Davis, Brian See

Communications Officer:  Chuck Rencurrel

8.      The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.  The next club meeting will be held November 13, Thursday.

Upcoming Events:

Wednesday, December 10, Christmas Dinner at Lamplight Inn, Ionia.  Dinner is at 7:00, happy hour starts at 6:30 p.m.

            Thursday, January 1, Frozen Finger Fly at the Walter Field beginning at noon.
